Tyler Prince is a vocalist, saxophonist and pianist born and based in Toronto. He is a baritone in his fourth and final year of the Bachelor of Music Program at The Glenn Gould School of The Royal Conservatory, wherein he is the recipient of a full-tuition scholarship. He is an alum of The Phil & Eli Taylor Academy for Young Artists of the Royal Conservatory of Music as well as an alumni of the Canadian Children’s Opera Company.

As a vocalist, Tyler performs opera, jazz, musical theatre, gospel, blues, pop, and choral music. Recently, he has performed the titular role of John Worthing in Victor Davies’ operetta Earnest, The Importance of Being Earnest and Simone in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi. He joined the Canadian Children's Opera Company when he was eight years old and is an alum of The Orpheus Choir. He has studied with acclaimed singers such as Jason Howard, Jennifer Tung and Cindy Townsend.

Alongside his operatic work, Tyler is a saxophonist and woodwind doubler (clarinet and flute) who studies with acclaimed saxophonist Allison Au. Recently, Tyler has performed in the orchestra to the staged premiere of Dean Burry’s opera Baby Kintyre, where he played tenor saxophone and clarinet. He is an alum of The Toronto All Star Big Band, in which during his time there he played all five saxophone chairs.

In his own ensembles, Tyler occasionally performs his own compositions. Tyler started his musical journey on classical piano. Tyler became the pianist/organist of his church at the age of eleven, which led to a love of gospel and jazz piano to complement his classical studies.

In addition to his vocal and woodwind pursuits, Tyler still performs frequently as a pianist in jazz ensembles, pit orchestras and as self accompaniment for himself. Recently, he has played synthesizer in Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods and William Finn’s The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, where he also led as the Assistant Music Director.

Tyler has performed on various stages and festivals across Ontario such as Koerner Hall, Roy Thomson Hall, Scotiabank Arena, The Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, The Four Seasons Centre for Performing Arts, Mississauga’s Living Arts Centre, The Beaches Jazz Festival, Parry Sound’s Festival of Sound, Kincardine’s Gathering of the Bands, Huntsville’s Festival of the Arts, Guelph Jazz Festival, and many more.

Tyler is a passionate teacher focused on creating a constructive and positive environment where students can excel in both their musical skills as well as in finding their own musical identity. Tyler loves the journey of music and hopes to share that with each student as they harness their skills throughout their lives!
