Our school takes a fun and modern approach to music with lessons tailored to the student’s individual needs no matter your skill level. Check out our list of offerings below to learn more!

Our Programs

Chamber Music

Chamber music is one of the oldest and most revered forms of intimate Classical music. Students work in small groups of two to five musicians under the guidance of one of our faculty. The benefits to the student are immeasurable with improved performance and literacy, more soulful playing and a greater depth of understanding of their instrument.

Children’s Choir

The ToMA Children’s Choir, led by Meredith Wanstall, provides an opportunity for children to learn fundamental musical skills in a group setting. Genres range from Classical to Broadway to Canadian Contemporary. Our students can look forward to developing their singing tone, breath control, and ability to read music through fun games and activities, in addition to the engaging repertoire.

Young Beginners Program

Conceived and taught by education specialist Miriam Kemppainen, this unique and engaging program gives students ages 4+ their first concrete steps on their musical journey. Children learn through vocal work, keyboarding, rhythmic development, games, literacy and more. But most of all, we nurture each child’s love of music and music-making, setting them up for success for life!

Composition

Working in tandem with our Theory program, students are taught the importance of communication in their compositions on top of creative exploration. Focusing on idiomatic composition (using the natural abilities, strengths and weaknesses of an instrument to guide a piece) as scoring techniques ensures that pieces are able to be performed and workshopped. Along with our full recording abilities and scoring stations, students build a real portfolio they can use for any pursuits in the composition field.

Digital Music Production

Our Digital Music Program, which we call The Rec Room, is a comprehensive set of courses for anyone looking to work in digital music production. Instructor Milen Petzelt has crafted a broad range of workshops, sessions and ongoing training for anyone looking to make their own songs, write for TV, movies, or videogames, and anything in between! We are proud to offer this program using the absolute latest in technology, techniques and know-how.

Guitar/Electric Bass

The guitar is, without a doubt, one of the most popular instruments in music today. Since the very first Gibson electric guitar, people everywhere have dreamed of being a rock star! In addition to the rock songs you love, students will also learn how to play beautiful Bach guitar works, jazz and blues, and everything in between. And with bass, students learn to construct their own lines, and perform different styles - even Classical music! - to be versatile, solid performers and creators.

Music History

No Classical musician can be fully educated without knowing where it all began! With our Music History program, you will be able to understand your theory lessons more fully and perform your repertoire with a much greater insight into the composer’s mind.

Whether you are preparing for your RCM exams, are working toward an application to study music at the university level, or are simply curious about how, when and where your repertoire came into being, this program is your key to achieving a lifelong, deeper understanding and love of music.

Strings

Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass

The Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass comprise the String Family of instruments. String instruments are among the oldest and most revered of the orchestra. They are capable of producing almost every sound to elicit almost every emotion. From sweet dulcet tones to soaring romantic melodies, the string family is among the most versatile instruments today.

Suzuki

“First for the love of the child, Next, for the love of teaching the child, Next, for the love of the music taught to the child, But always, the child comes first.”

Dr. Shinichi Suzuki

Theory

Music Theory is one of the most underrated parts of any music student’s education. Typically viewed as a requirement for intermediate and advanced students, Music Theory is so much more than just “how to write notes and scales.”

From learning why scales matter, what we can build and create using them to working with real-world practical examples, our Music Theory program can enhance the practical instrument work while enabling new heights of musical achievement through true understanding and literacy.

voice

Singing lessons are available to students of any age or level. This program helps students develop their singing abilities through specific vocal tools and techniques. Singers can develop their voices by learning a variety of singing styles, including classical, pop, and musical theatre.

We grow and develop confidence through performances, learning to develop healthy performance habits.
